Old Testament
In the old testament, to pay your sins, you must offer an offering (which is animal). Then GOD will forgive you.
But, there were also some requirements for the offering. Here are the requirements:
1. The animal that is being offer must be perfect (spotless)
2. The offering/sacrifice had to identify with the animal.

So, in the old testament, you'll find out that it was difficult to get a salvation from GOD. Because, GOD required animal as a sacrifice for the man's salvation. But, let's see about the salvation in the new testament...
New Testament
In the new testament, our Heavenly Father has sent His one & only Son into this world. Jesus Christ was born to sacrifice Himself at the cross. His destiny is only one, which is to saved all the people who believed in Him from the eternal death.
